Questions about IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol)

Is IPA the same as rubbing alcohol?

Largely, yes. Rubbing alcohol is usually isopropyl alcohol diluted with water, commonly around 70%. Industrial IPA is supplied far more concentrated.

Why is 70% IPA used for disinfection rather than pure IPA?

Because the water slows evaporation and helps the alcohol penetrate and denature microbial proteins. Near-anhydrous IPA evaporates too quickly to be as effective on surfaces.

Is IPA safe to use on electronics?

Yes, high-concentration IPA is a standard electronics cleaner because it dissolves flux and oils and dries without residue. Power off equipment and let it dry fully first, since IPA is flammable.

What HSN code does isopropyl alcohol use?

Isopropyl alcohol is classified under HSN 29051220.

Is an SDS available for IPA?

Yes, an SDS is available on request.
