Titanium Dioxide

Exporter & supplier, HSN 282300, Inorganics

Titanium dioxide (TiO₂) is the most widely used white pigment, prized for high refractive index, opacity and brightness. Rutile grades dominate paints and plastics for their durability; anatase grades suit paper, fibres and some indoor uses.

Also known as: TiO₂, Titania, Titanium(IV) oxide, Rutile titanium dioxide, Anatase titanium dioxide, CI Pigment White 6, CI 77891

Handling, storage and hazards

Handling and storage

  • Store dry and off the floor; moisture causes caking and poor dispersion.
  • Use dust extraction and avoid generating airborne dust during bag emptying.
  • Wear a dust mask or respirator where dust cannot be controlled.
  • Clean spills by vacuum or damp methods rather than dry sweeping; wet TiO₂ makes floors very slippery.

Hazards

  • Fine dust may irritate the eyes and respiratory tract.
  • IARC classifies titanium dioxide as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B), based on inhalation of dust; control airborne dust.

Questions about Titanium Dioxide

What is the difference between rutile and anatase titanium dioxide?

Rutile has a higher refractive index and better weather resistance, so it gives more opacity and durability in paints and plastics. Anatase is softer, bluer-white and less abrasive, and is used in paper, fibres and some indoor applications.

Why is titanium dioxide so widely used as a white pigment?

Because its very high refractive index scatters visible light strongly, giving excellent hiding power and brightness at low dosage.

What does a surface treatment on TiO₂ do?

Coatings such as alumina, silica or organic treatments improve dispersion and reduce photocatalytic activity, which protects the binder from chalking outdoors.

What HSN code does titanium dioxide use?

Titanium oxides fall under HSN 282300.

Is an SDS available for titanium dioxide?

Yes, an SDS is available on request.

Do you export Titanium Dioxide?
