SLES 70%

Exporter & supplier, HSN 340239, Surfactants

SLES 70% is a concentrated paste of sodium lauryl ether sulphate, the main foaming surfactant in shampoos, body washes and dishwash liquids. Its high active content keeps freight low, but it must be diluted with care to avoid a stiff gel phase.

Also known as: Sodium lauryl ether sulphate 70%, Sodium laureth sulfate, SLES paste, Sodium alkyl ether sulphate, Sodium C12-14 alcohol ethoxy sulphate

Handling, storage and hazards

Handling and storage

  • To dilute, add the paste to water slowly under strong stirring, not water to paste; passing quickly through the 30–60% range avoids an immovable gel.
  • Store between about 15 °C and 40 °C; it stiffens in the cold and may hydrolyse with prolonged heat.
  • Keep containers closed to stop surface skin and microbial contamination.
  • Use pumps suited to viscous pastes, such as lobe or progressive-cavity pumps.

Hazards

  • Causes serious eye damage at paste concentration.
  • Causes skin irritation.
  • Harmful to aquatic life; avoid undiluted release to drains.

Questions about SLES 70%

What is the difference between SLES 70% and SLES 28%?

Only the water content. SLES 70% is a concentrated paste that is cheaper to ship per kilo of active; SLES 28% is a pumpable liquid that is easier to handle and dose but carries more water.

How do I dilute SLES 70% without it turning to gel?

Add the paste into water, not water into paste, under vigorous stirring. SLES forms a very viscous gel between roughly 30% and 60% active, so move through that range quickly.

Is SLES the same as SLS?

No. SLES is ethoxylated before sulphation, which makes it milder to skin and more soluble. SLS is sodium lauryl sulphate without ethoxylation.

Does SLES contain 1,4-dioxane?

Trace 1,4-dioxane can form as a by-product of ethoxylation, and levels depend on how the material is made. If your market sets a limit, state it in your enquiry.

Is an SDS available for SLES 70%?
